Marketing Resolutions

January 16, 2014

How quickly your resolve can fade, especially when you have lofty goals. Did you know that 25% of those that make New Year’s resolutions don’t even make it the first week?

2014 many not turn out to be the year you get to your high school weight or run that marathon, but there are resolutions you can stick to this year when it comes to your organization’s marketing strategy. With the New Year quickly fading, it’s time to focus on tackling these marketing resolutions.

Adapt & Change – Make 2014 the year you break out of your mold. Just because it’s always been done one way doesn’t mean there may not be a better way. Instead of a printed annual report, perhaps you create an interactive one on your website. Instead of renewing those fading yellow page placements, you take all of that money and put it online. Making the plunge into the unknown can be scary even when your gut tells you it is right. Resolve to make one big change this year.

Commit & Grow – Maybe there’s an area of your marketing where you’ve dabbled but never committed. It could be social media or mobile marketing; you tried it, but without the investment of time, money or effort you can’t determine the return. Stop dabbling and commit to doing one new thing as well as possible for a year. You’ll quickly see if the investment will deliver a return on your investment.

Plan & Dream – What would you do if you had limitless time or money? What do you think could make a big difference for your organization or that you’ve seen work for others? Research, exploration and number-crunching could determine that your dream could be a reality. Maybe it’s a complete rebranding including all of your collateral materials. Perhaps it’s new website that will broaden your mission to the world. Dream big then make it happen (or as much of it as you can).

This year don’t let your resolve fade. Determine to adapt, commit and do the work to make your marketing dreams a reality.
